Test run of the chalks!

This is a test of how the hair looks after the chalking process. We've took more pictures today to use on our CD insert and cover etc. We're gonna be replacing the found imagery that we currently have with these pictures before we hand it in, hopefully it's gonna look good!

Synergy of Magazine Adverts and CD Covers

In order to create consistency between the magazine advert and the CD cover, it is important that the key features of each of them link up and intertwine in order to create a series of products. that is easily recognisable as being part of the same brand. This can be done through the use of same colours, whether light and bright for a pop band, or dark and shadowy for a metal band. They will usually both feature the same font for the band's name. Not only is this important for establishing the connection between the two, but it also shows that the music created is part of a brand. Similar images may also be used between the two, allowing the repeated images to be clear to the audience, and remain in their head long after they have seen the product/advert.

In this example of The Kings of Leon, the same colours have been used aswell as the same stylised fonts and image. A perfect example of creating synergy between the two and establishing the entireity of the product to it's target audience.

For our single, McFly, 'Five Colours in her Hair', we are going to try and use vibrant colours to match in with the band's 'sound' of being rather happy and upbeat, aswell as coinciding with the narrative of the song. Speaking of which, the hair chalk that I mentioned in a previous blog has arrived, so naturally the first thing we did was see if they worked. Me and Jorjah are excited about it but I think it's fair to say that Megan is slightly nervous. Should be fun either way!

CHALK STUFF

Hello to all my Russian readers out there, this blog is for you!

So we're thinking of colouring in Meg with this chalk stuff to fit in with the lyrics of the song, obviously being 'Five Colours in her Hair'. We believe that the vibrant nature of the colours aswell as the difference it would provide in comparison to some other music videos would provide interest to the audience, whilst also tying in to the whole pop/rock genre and it's generally upbeat music.

We also carried on with the production of the CD insert, we are currently using found images in it, however, we understand that in the production of our actual piece we won't be able to do this and will have to create our own artwork.

Here is a video of McFly to give everyone a bit of happiness in their day.

CD Insert

Today we're making a CD insert for the single we will be making over the next couple of weeks. We're taking inspiration from other McFly CD covers such as:

Despite using found artwork as filler for our current CD cover we eventually intend to replace the signatures of McFly with the actor used in our video, namely Megan, and hopefully to get the artwork featured on the front to be drawn by one of our more artistic friends. Here is an example of what we have so far:

We realised that by using an image such as the one above, we would be keeping in line with McFly's style, with their covers often featuring a form of abstract image, that may or may not link into the narrative of the songs. In the case of ours, the image does coincide with the narratiove, giving the audience a clear picture of what the song is about and whether or not they will want to buy it. It also fits with the colourful nature of the magazine adverts that we previously made.

Filming Problems

It would appear that we are always the group that comes upon problems when we are supposed to be filming. For example, today we were going to start the filming for the preliminary piece but unfortunately, Megan has got tonsillitis and Ben is MIA! We also appear to have 'misplaced' the storyboards, fingers crossed that Megan has them. Despite this we're still able to plan some ideas for when they return and hopefully we'll be back to normal as soon as possible.

A bit of Kasabian always makes a problem fade away!

Adverts!

We spent today's lesson creating a magazine advert for the single we are producing for our preliminary piece.

We did this following the conventions of other magazine adverts for similar products. These include QR Codes, a form of bringing social interaction to a static form of media, and also the record label who help to produce the music for the artist, a subliminal form of them advertising themselves aswell as the band. I went for a colourful theme, to reflect the lyrics and sound of the song, being upbeat and having a happy sound to it. If I had had more time I would have included other conventions of the advert such as including some details about the band's previous work, e.g. 'Grammy Award Winning Artists...' or perhaps an image of the band themselves to further promote them and their image.

A2 Blogging!

We're back at school after the exams and already preparing for our A2 Media course. We've got together the old 'team' from last year as we feel like we worked well together as a group when we were making our thriller trailer, as despite the pitfalls we occassionally came across we persevered and created the video that we wanted to make. We feel we'll be able to make a good start to this course if we work together again, despite the fact that we may not end up doing our final pieces together.

So now to the work itself, we've got to create a preliminary piece again, this time including:
  • A short music video - approximately 1/1.5 minutes
  • A CD digi pack - back cover including spines and insert booklet of even numbers
  • An A4 page magazine advert for the CD
We've chosen to create a music video for the popular song by McFly, 'Five Colours in Her Hair'. We ended up choosing this video due to everyone in the group having prior knowledge of the song, despite our varying music tastes, ranging from One Direction to The White Stripes and Brand New.

Another contributing factor to this is the fact that McFly released this song early in their career and were therefore less well known/adept at the music vdieo creating process, leaving the video to be adequate but nothing outstanding. In comparison, one of their latest songs, 'Love is Easy' provides a much more polished music video, even though it takes on a similar style to the older video.

Feel free to take a look even though they obviously won't be as good as this amazing blog you have already read!
